Fall Migration in the Blue Ridge, Asheville, NC

September 27, 2006

The trip went very well. It started out foggy, but as we made our way north on the Parkway things started to clear out. We stopped at Craven Gap for a little while and had thrushes and a few other migrants. Everyone decided they wanted to head up to Ridge Junction, so that's what we did. At RJ the big push had all ready happened by the time we got there. We did have lots of birds coming through, just most were not stopping. We did pick up Pine Siskin and Red Crossbill there though. After about an hour there we went back down to the area around the Craggy Garden picnic area and this is where we spent the rest of the trip. We had lots of Tennessee and the most Cape May Warblers I think I have ever seen. Over all it was a great trip.
