Trip Report

The sun broke through the overcast skies for a nice variety of damselflies and dragonflies on the Ventures trip to FENCE. Slaty Skimmers, who didn't seem to mind the cloudy weather, were the first to be seen and were soon followed by Blue Dasher and Common Whitetail. During the sunny periods, the group was treated to great looks of the colorful Halloween Pennant, Eastern Amberwing, and Spangled Skimmer. A search among the pondGroup vegetation turned up the tiny Fragile Forktail damselfly, as well as a Variable Dancer. A golden-yellow Wandering Glider patrolled non-stop around the pond for most of the trip. After lunch we walked the shaded trails around the pond and picked up Great Blue Skimmer, Blue-tipped Dancer, and the iridescent Ebony Jewelwing. We ended the day with a change of location, identifying butterflies at the FENCE butterfly garden.
