Venture to  Stecoah Gap
& Snowbird Lodge, NC
With Simon Thompson

May 3, 2006

Our annual pilgrimages to Stecoah Gap are always wonderful, although some species elude us as the spring progresses. This year we had superb views of multiple Golden-wings, but could only hear a Cerulean Warbler. A singing Worm-eating Warbler was a nice find and is not a species that we get here every year. Another nice surprise was a Savannah Sparrow feeding alongside the road near the picnic tables. This was obviously a migrant that had stopped to feed in the short grass. We finished the walk with 14 warblers, which was not too bad, before heading over to Snowbird Lodge for afternoon coffee and cookies.
