Migration Workshop in Jackson Park, Hendersonville, NC

20 October 2007

Normally we run our October Jackson Park day-trip a little earlier in the fall, but this year we decided to try and catch the cross-over between the last of the summer migrants and the arrival of some of the winter species. With an overnight front passing through the night before our Venture, we certainly hit the jackpot with migrants all over the park. Our 12 warbler total was excellent and included Nashville, Orange-crowned and Bay-breasted, all of which can be a little troublesome to see. Other highlights were 3 species of vireo with a single quite late Philadelphia Vireo and 2 Blue-headed Vireos heralding the late fall migration. Other incoming winter arrivals were Brown Creeper, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Winter Wren. A Red-breasted Nuthatch that was seen by some of us was part of the fall influx that is happening this year. Thanks again to Simon Harvey and Gail Lankford for helping out.
