Venture to Roan Mountain, NC/TN
June 18 and 19, 2008

We hit the mother lode this year, weather wise. Arriving at Carver's Gap we were greeted by temps in the mid-50s, a bit of breeze, and brilliant sunshine. Light windbreakers were donned for the morning walk across Round Bald - at 5800+ feet the temp was probably close to 50.

The Flame Azaleas on the back side of the bald were as spectacular as I can remember. It literally took away our breath. It's a privilege to live where this occurs, and even more of a privilege to show this to people for the first time! Both groups of "Venturers" made the day even better for me! Being out in the southern Appalachians with such interested, knowledgeable, and appreciative folks makes my job even better (and that ain't easy!)

Looking forward to seeing you on Roan in '09

Scott Dean
