Venture to
Colorado

Venture Description

Join Simon Thompson, Ventures, Inc. co-owner, on this tour of scenic Colorado's varied habitats. Starting from Denver, traveling by van, we will first visit the vast flat grasslands to the east, looking for prairie birds such as Mountain Plover, Ferruginous Hawk, and Chestnut-collared Longspur. Moving west, up into the majestic Rocky Mountains, we will search for birds characteristic of the highest elevations, including sub alpine tundra species such as White-tailed Ptarmigan and Brown-capped Rosy Finch. There should also be a spectacular wildflower and butterfly show in these high meadows. After crossing the high mountain passes, we will explore the canyons and mesas of the Colorado Plateau, in the western part of the state. Here, in a region of sparse pinyon pine, juniper and sagebrush vegetation, we will seek birds of the arid red-rock country, such as Pinyon Jay and Canyon Wren. Finally, we will loop around to the south and east, following a different route back over the Rocky Mountains to Denver.
