Ecuador is the size of the state of Georgia, yet 1,540 species of birds have been recorded in the country. On this Venture, we'll travel from the Andes into the northwestern lowlands, seeing a dazzling display of tanagers, flycatchers and hummingbirds; over high, windswept pass to relict patches of polylepis forest for the endemic Black-breasted Puffleg; through Chocó cloudforest, where we hope to find such regional endemics as Toucan Barbet, Pale-mandibled Aracari and Chocó Toucan; and lower elevation tropical rainforest near Silanche looking for Choco endemics such as Purple-chested Hummingbird, Banded Ground-Cuckoo and Long-wattled Umbrellabird.

Our accommodation will be comfortable and convenient to the best birding spots. The food is excellent and the people very friendly. If you have never been to South America before, this trip to Ecuador will open your eyes to the beauty and diversity that is South America. Our 10-day Choco and Wild Sumaco tour takes us across both sides of Andes.

Although we are dedicating the majority of our time to hummingbirds, we will still enjoy all of the other birds, which will include a wide range of tanagers, trogons, antbirds and many more.
