Our new "Becoming a Better Birder" series kicks off with a walk at The Mouth of Mud Creek. A newly protected area in the floodplain of the French Broad River. Galen will start the series with a session on "Sparrows and Finches" which should be abundant and easy to see along Mud Creek and in the overgrown brushy areas. We will also have binoculars should you require them - just let us know.

On a recent walk we saw White-crowned, White-throated, Song, Savannah, Swamp and Field Sparrows, but others are certainly possible in this wonderful spot. Purple Finches are also moving in this winter so we should see and hear them as they feed in the treetops.

The walking is mostly easy, although it may be wet and a little uneven. Bring appropriate footwear and be prepared for a pleasant walk.
