Mongolian Steppes by Rubythroat Tours.jpg

Mongolia has long been viewed as an exotic destination and we have all heard of Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan and their wars and battles across Eastern and Central Asia. This vast country is sparsely inhabited and the open steppes evoke a truly wild land with abundant wildlife and peoples still practicing their unique and classic cultural traditions. Our tour has been designed to hit the highlights and timing of spring migration across this vast inland country. Flocks of Bar-headed and Swan Geese should be moving north, along with Whooper Swan, Garganey and a large assortment of waterfowl, plus we will hear the bugling sounds of Common and Demoiselle Cranes as they also move north.

We will explore the Taiga forests to find Hazel Grouse and Black-billed Capercaillie and a host of passerines highlighted by Siberian Rubythroat, Siberian Blue Robin, Bluethroat and Red-flanked Bluetail.

We also plan to spend time on the vast Manchurian-Siberian grasslands- one of the last and largest intact ecosystems on earth. Raptors will be common and include Upland Buzzard, Steppe Eagle and Saker Falcon, as well as Mongolian Gazelle and Saiga Antelope.

Join Simon for our first Venture to this wild and wonderful part of the world.
