Michael Werndley

Mike is a lifelong birder with a passion for sharing experiences that promote awareness and respect of the natural world. After studying both Ecology and Outdoor Environmental Education at university, he has worked for numerous conservation organizations over the years, including the Aigas Field Centre, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and Scottish Natural Heritage. Career highlights include spending six years living and working as the Countryside Ranger on the Isle of Rum National Nature Reserve in Scotland. He moved to the United States in 2016 and now lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina with his wife, young daughter and their food crazy labrador.
His bird and wildlife encounters have been memorable and include being followed home one night by two European otters, plus spending quality time with the southern brown kiwi on the remote Stewart Island. Other than that, he’s gazed into the eyes of a wild tiger from 30 feet and been covered head to toe in smelly seabird guano and loved it! He’s also had the chance to work with the BBC on various filming projects which include Bill Oddie Goes Wild and the popular Autumnwatch series.
